Our Story

Once Upon a Time, in Paragon City -- No, wait a second, back up...

Once upon a time, there was a Bear, and there was a Duck. They were both (note to self: don't say geeks) wily, writerly types, well-versed in the wonders of that thing called The Internets. One day, while browsing toward GrandmothersHouse.com, Duck came across the scribbling of the Bear, and found it kind of nice.

"That's kind of nice," she thought, and sent a little note off to Bear, "Bear, oh Bear, are you writing a novel? Can I see it, please?" Then she went her merry little way to a cocktail party.

Now Bear was, in fact, writing a novel, and thought this message was very curious and interesting.

Over the course of many months of walking in the woods down separate but nearby paths (and shoe shopping), Duck and Bear became virtual friends, until a fellow woodland creature pointed at a spot where their paths met, near the Rocky Mountains.

So Duck jumped on an airplane and flew across the country, and met Bear, and for a time, they were friends for real.

(There is a little princess in this story, too, and Duck fell in love with her, also, but that comes later.)

Time passed, as it does in these kind of stories, and Bear and Duck continued to send messages back and forth, and continued to be friends, and talked about books and movies and games and things of that nature, until one day, Bear and Duck said, "I think maybe we should talk about other things beside all those things. And maybe some kissing.” And Bear saw Duck again, and knew that they had had a very good idea.

For a year, they flew across the country many many times, and even across the big pond to the Old Country!

They had many many adventures.
And they read many many books.
... and there might have been some kissing.
Maybe.

Then, one day, Bear said to himself, "I want to marry Duck. I should get a ring. And not one of those kind they use for tracking migratory patterns... a proper ring." And he searched and he searched.

And, because he was a sneaky bear, he acted to Duck as though a ring were very far from his mind. He talked about other things: honeycombs, books, cars, and sometimes the heartbreak of Hibernation Hair. Still, Duck had some ideas in her head -- ideas for a distant future, she thought. And sometimes, sometimes, they talked about THAT (though only a little. Because such things are often scary).

Then one day, Bear (after a great and terrible and somewhat stressful quest) got a ring for Duck, and flew across the country. And he spent a great deal of time wandering the city with her, and talking about nothing in particular, and acting as though there was no kind of Important Thing about to happen. And Duck was a clueless kind of Duck. But she was having a Very Good Hair Day.

And then they went dancing (bears and ducks are, conveniently, quite good dancers), and Bear took Duck onto the dance floor, and knelt down, and pulled out the ring, and asked her if she'd wear it.

And Duck, being a watery creature, cried.
And also laughed, and shrieked, and said, "Yes!"
And Bear was very, very happy.
